I’ve had a ton of questions about the raw vacation scheduled next month in North Carolina. I thought I would just answer them and post them on my blog for those of you who are curious.
Photos, dates, registration and other details can be found HERE. So here are all the questions…
Hi there. Looks fantastic. I’m considering the vacation, but we have twins aged 6 1/2 and don’t know what I’d do with them!
I don’t know what to do with the kids! LOL – if you wanted to get the king room, you could have a slumber party with all three of you. (As long as they’re super well behaved, could be fun! But I’d probably have to warn the other guests in case they’re allergic to kids. I’ve heard of people like that!) I imagine that is not what you were planning, though. I was just trying to be funny.
*Edited to add — She’s coming! But the kids are staying home!
So, are all meals included in this price? And for a single woman, with the $75 off, that means it’s $320 for 3 days/2 nights?*
Yes, it’s $320 with the early bird, including meals. It’s pretty ridiculous, isn’t it? I’m obviously not going to make a bazillion dollars from the trip. But it will be fun!
*This question has been edited slightly for accuracy.
Where in N. Carolina. I’m sorry to bug you with so many questions.
It’s in Maggie Valley, about half an hour from Asheville, in the Smoky Mountains. It’s a magical little area. We will be RIGHT on the mountain. And no bother on the questions. I might actually post them up somewhere, along with the other ones I received (but without your name, if that’s OK).
I was wondering what kind of schedule there will be. Is this a structured event or are we on our own to do whatever. Thanks, I hope I can make it.
I added a schedule up HERE. But EVERYthing is optional if you want to enjoy some outings at any given time. I will work hard to make sure the classes aren’t worth missing. If there is a particular topic you are already familiar with or a time you just want to get away, you are welcome to leave for a hike or whatever and come back for the food!
I am thinking about sharing a single with a female for that Fri-Sun Nov 6-8. If there is an odd number of people, do I still only pay $395? Or is it double that if I don’t have someone to share the room with?
If you are a single female, you have the option to pay either $395 per person for a shared room (females only) or to pay more for a private room. I will do my best to fill the rooms, but if you end up with a private room and don’t pay for it, it’s your luck! I don’t think that will happen, in any case. If you have a friend coming along, it would make more sense to pay for a private room so you know who you are sharing the room with, if you are comfortable with sharing a bed with your friend.
Would $395 be the total cost for lodging & food? If so, then I only need to pay transport. Just confirming.
You got it!
What is the cancellation policy if I find I can’t make it? I assume I lose the entire deposit but wanted to confirm.
If your space is filled, I’ll refund your deposit less a $25 administrative fee. If your space is not filled, you forfeit the deposit but won’t need to pay the other half.
I live here in Jacksonville so part of me thinks it would just be easier to put that money toward private or group classes with you here in Jax (as I have small kids and it’s hard to get away), but I think I might learn a lot more if I immerse myself in 48 hours of food & classes. Thoughts?
If you can get away and would enjoy a group environment, I’d say do it. You would pay a lot more to take these classes privately and would still miss out on getting other people’s questions answered (some you might not have even thought of yet!). If you don’t like group classes, then it would probably be better to have me come over. This is set up as it is for a few reasons –
1/ I like vacations! (Don’t we all?)
2/ North Carolina is GORGEOUS this time of year. What a great excuse to get up there!
3/ Group classes and vacations are a fabulous way to relax and meet new people from other places.
4/ Lots of people on a budget could really use something like this and really can’t afford private classes or can’t get out to Jacksonville. I know I would have loved to have an option like this, at this price a few years ago!
5/ Isn’t it nice to have raw people around? Like a “fammunity” as my dear friend Carmella calls it!
